Sydney Megagamers is a not-for profit association. Everything we do, and all money we raise, is focussed on delivering great megagame events for our community.

Ticketing to events is the primary source of our income. Most of the time, a lot of expenses (like venue hire, insurance, game materials) need to paid up front, well before an event and the ticketing process.

This means SM committee members usually need to take on the financial risk of investing in these things and are then eventually reimbursed for these costs.

Membership provides a passive source of income, unrelated to specific megagame events, which means there is more money available pre-events to manage those costs while keeping the risk (say, of cancellation of an event due to unforeseen circumstances) with the association and not the individual committee members.

Passive income that's not related to a specific event also helps us give stability to our game tickets (offsetting a game that has particularly pricey components, for example) so we can keep our ticketing prices as reasonable and consistent as possible. It also equips us to handle ongoing, non-event related admin costs which come with being an association, like website hosting.

Finally, membership brings supportive and loyal members of our community into the spotlight and helps shine a light on how SM is machine run for and by you, the members, and the people who get to benefit from what we create.

Membership comes with a number of benefits and all types of member, regardless of monthly, quarterly or annual subscription, eventually get access to all of these benefits.

Immediately, on subscription, SM members gain:

After 3 months of membership (or in the case of Quarterly and Annual subscriptions, immediately) members also receive:

1. 2. Access to a premium, members-only Discord, where the SM organisation will share news before it goes public, and sometimes lean on the SM member community to help make decisions (like what games to run, or when)

   3. An SM branded, custom printed lapel pin to help you flaunt your support of Sydney Megagamers

After 6 months of membership (or, in the case of Annual subscriptions, immediately) members also unlock:

1. 1. A standing 10% off all merchandise from Sydney Megagamers

   2. An SM branded tote bag to help you carry all your megagame goodies

Note - merchandise associated with memberships as listed on this page is not exclusive to members and can be purchased with megagame tickets or at Sydney Megagamers events.

SM reserves the right to release future benefits to membership not listed here, including additional and/or exclusive merchandise.

Regardless of your membership type, the total cost of joining SM is $42 a year. Your choice is all about how and when you'd want to pay that price.

All forms of membership can be cancelled at any time. We value that those paying for membership to SM are doing so, most of all, to support our organisation. This is a voluntary and heartfelt action, and we don't take that support for granted. If at any time during your membership cycle you decide you can no longer support us, the choice to opt out is there.

From an organisational standpoint, annual subscriptions are the most beneficial to SM. This is only because of the small fees we are charged per transaction to our accounts. These fees charged 12 times a year, or 4 times in the case of quarterly membership, obviously accumulate and end up being more than one single fee collected with the annual subscription model.

That said, the difference for us is only a few dollars, so we stress that the regularity of membership payments is solely at your discretion.

To avoid extra fees associated with shipping, physical rewards are ready and waiting for you at the next SM event you attend.

In exceptional circumstances, where you've earned a new reward but won't make it to an event in the near future, just get in touch - we're happy to work something out.

Digital rewards, like the advance access to tickets or the premium Discord role, are granted to members shortly after subscribing.
